STORM allows you to quickly an easily create a staging copy of your site so that you can carry out changes, try features and have a testing ground for anything new you want to do without it affecting your live site.

You can create a staging site either on the same server as your live site, or you can now create a staging site onto another server! Creating a staging site onto the same server as your live site can work fine, but it will mean that resources are then split between the two sites which can cause issues. Creating a staging site onto another server has the benefit of allowing you to have your staging site away from your live client websites, you'll be free to try anything you like, knowing if that server goes down, the only thing it'll interrupt is your other staging sites - which nobody but you can see anyway!

Here are the steps for creating a staging site on STORM

From the website dashboard click on Staging in the left hand pane

Then click the Configure button

Now enter the domain you would like the staging site to be on, for example staging.yourdomain.com

Tick Enable password protection if you would like the staging site to be password protected (recommended)

Tick Prevent robots to stop search engine bots (i.e. Google) from being able to index the site

Then finally click Create Staging Website

You will then be taken to the new site in STORM

STORM will now go and make your staging website, depending on the size of the website you're copying it can take anywhere from seconds to minutes.

Whilst this is going on it's worth checking you've got valid DNS setup for the staging site.

Extra steps for creating a staging website on another server

Follow the above steps but before clicking the Create Staging Website button tick Create this website on another server

Click on the Destination Server drop down menu and you will see a list of servers you have with us. Select the server you would like the staging site to be created on

You will be taken to the new site on the new server in STORM

STORM will now go and make your staging website on the new server, and again depending on the size of the website you're copying it can take anywhere from seconds to minutes.
