How To: Check Website Response Speed & TTFB

With any site response, speed is key.

You want your visitors to have the best, and fastest, experience possible when they access your site. We have an exciting feature which will allow you to see the stats for your site so you can look for ways to improve its loading times.

Steps

1. Navigate to https://app.nimbushosting.co.uk/websites

2. Click on your chosen website.

3. To check your TTFB, click on "Manage Performance".

Do bear in mind that it takes a week from when the site goes live to show up on the platform as it needs some data to work with.

4. You will now be able to see the Google Analytics stats.

  • On this screen you will be able to refresh the data;
  • You will also be able to check the data in different timeframes:
  • Your three different options are “last week”, “last month” and “last year”.

Many things contribute to the TTFB, here are a few things that we suggest looking at to improve the load time of your site:

  • Use the newest PHP version, there are always speed increases that come with a new PHP version. If your site is running an old PHP version then look to upgrade it. Please be aware that not all plugins will 'play nicely' with the newer versions, so it's a good idea to change the version and then check your site to make sure that it hasn't broken anything. If it has then you can switch it back.

Changing your PHP Configuration

  • Keep your plugins and themes up to date. If you are using out-of-date themes and plugins it is not just a security risk but it also slows your site down. You can update them through the platform now and there's a guide below on how to do that. In addition to keeping them up to date, keep an eye on how many themes you have and if you're not using them, then remove them as this can also affect the TTFB.

WordPress Tools

  • Using a caching plugin helps quite well with getting those page speeds down. Why not try out NimCache Ultra, built from the ground up to speed up your site?
